So you want to add a Blog to your website, firstly, well done on a spectacularly awesome decision!

Blogs are one of the best ways of keeping your website content fresh and relevant to your internet-searching-audience, as well as keeping Google a happy little search engine.

You see Google-the-search-engine-God and all her search engine buddies like to regularly visit your website and play amongst your content. All those words, images and videos can catch their attention, but they’re especially drawn to the new and shiny – who isn’t!

The more new content they find, the more likely your site is to feature in their search results when that potential customer whips out their smart phone for a quick Google and, you get bonus points if your content is relevant and useful in this fast-moving digital playground!

So, before we get distracted by yet-another-hilarious-cat-video or that surprisingly mouth-watering zero everything chocolate cake recipe, lets follow the 3 super easy steps to getting your blog on your website.

Step 1 – Let’s give your Blog a room of its own

First things first, we need to create a space on your website for all your awesome-posts-of-wisdom to live. Head to your website’s WordPress Dashboard and click on PAGES, then ADD PAGE, up will pop your soon-to-be blog page. Don’t worry about adding any text or blocks because all you need to do is to give the page a title. It could be as simple as BLOG or maybe something a little quirky like Blogosphere or Blogspace – whatever feels like you and is going to speak to your audience. Either way it’s ideal for it to be clear what this page is for as the title will become your blog’s URL and will feature in your website menu options – for example, www.yourwebsitename.com/bloggerverse

Once you’ve named your page (and your blog) click PUBLISH. Your blog has a home!

Step 2 – You’ve got the page now to tell WordPress what it does.

WordPress is super clever and can automatically display your blogs as posts and set them out all snazzy on your site, but first we need to actually tell WordPress that this page on your site is for your Blog. So, in your WordPress Dashboard click on SETTINGS then READING. Now head to POSTS PAGE and from the list select the blog page you’ve just created. Now WordPress knows that the content on your Blog page needs to feature as individual posts.

Just before you hit that SAVE CHANGES button, head to the section BLOG PAGES SHOW at MOST and type in the number of blog posts you’d like to appear on your Blog page – the page now knows to show your X number of most recent blog posts. Now its time to hit that SAVE CHANGES button.

Step 3 – Let’s give your visitors directions

Before we celebrate and throw you a blog party, let’s make sure that visitors to your site can actually find your library of awesomeness, by adding your Blog to your site menu. Back to your WordPress Dashboard, scroll down to APPEARANCE and select MENUS. Here you can see all the pages that appear in your main site menu – you know, those 3 little horizontal lines somewhere at the top of your website!

In the ADD MENU PAGES section, under PAGES, choose your Blog page (if you can’t see it click on SEARCH and type in that page name you created earlier). Give that page a tick and click ADD TO MENU, your blog page should now appear in the MENU STRUCTURE right next door. Once it does hit SAVE MENU and give yourself a Whoop Whoop, because you’ve just added a blog to your website!

How simple was that! And now that you’ve nailed the technical stuff it’s time to get creative and share your wisdom with the world through your blog. Once you’re ready to post, click on POSTS and then ADD NEW in your WordPress Dashboard. Layout all that content awesomeness, throw in a couple of snappy pics and call yourself a blogger!
